The time is coming for Rio de Janeiro to host one of the biggest golf tournaments in the world. Between March 30 and April 6, the PGA Tour Americas 2025 will be held at the Olympic Course in Barra da Tijuca, on the city’s west side. The organizers of the event were at the headquarters of the Professional Golfers Association (PGA) in Florida last week to iron out the final details of the competition.
The creator and main person responsible for bringing the tournament to Rio, businessman Carlos Favoreto, participated directly in meetings with the president of the PGA Tour, Alex Baldwin, in Ponte Vedra, and visited one of the main golf courses on the circuit, TPC Sawgrass. Favoreto shared details about the meeting and hopes it will be positive for Rio to have an event of this magnitude.
“The tournament is now considered by the PGA Tour, the world’s leading professional golf association, to be the third largest tournament on the planet, and it is a great honor to host this tournament for the next three years, where we put Brazil on the world map of golf and everything that this sport brings to health and the local economy, whether through sports or tourism,” said Carlos Favoreto, who is president of the Barra da Tijuca Olympic Golf Course.
Rio de Janeiro will host the PGA Tour Americas for the next three years. The agreement was signed in July 2024. Just last year, the venue hosted the 69th ECP Brazil Open, which was seen as a pilot event and was considered a success in terms of organization.
Golf is played by more than 60 million people worldwide. In Brazil, according to CBGolfe, there are around 20,000 players. In Paris 2024, the sport took part in the Summer Olympics for the third time in a row.
