Rio de Janeiro reached the milestone of more than half a million foreign visitors arriving in the state in the first two months of 2025. According to data from Immigration in Brazil, there were 502,259 tourists, representing a 50% increase compared to the same period in 2024.
Governor Cláudio Castro celebrated the figures and stressed the importance of continued work to position Rio as a global destination.
“These results show that the world continues to choose Rio. The 50% growth in international tourism is a reflection of our actions to strengthen the state’s image and attract major events. We are working to ensure that this upward trend continues to boost the economy and create jobs for people from Rio de Janeiro,”said Castro.
Argentina leads as the main source, with 196,649 visitors, followed by Chile (96,226) and the United States (52,701). Tourism Secretary Gustavo Tutuca stressed that the government’s goal is to attract 1.8 million international tourists by 2025, consolidating Rio as a global destination.
